Trainee Counsellor Profile

Joe

Working under the BACP ethical framework, I offer an integrative and empathetic space for you to safely explore your thoughts and navigate life’s challenges at your own speed.

About Joe

As an integrative trainee counsellor and member of the BACP, I focus on creating a secure, gentle space where you can explore your thoughts without the fear of being judged. My path into counselling grew from a desire to do something more meaningful with my career. I wanted to move away from the "everyday" and build a career centred on helping people navigate their own unique journeys. As a therapist in training, I am open, warm, and deeply committed to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that for therapy to be effective, you need to feel that the environment is safe and, more importantly, that the time is yours. My approach is integrative, which means I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" solution. I combine a person-centred approach—prioritising your autonomy and lived experience—with psychodynamic insights. This allows us to work together to understand the deeper patterns and past experiences that may be shaping how you feel today. During our sessions i hope to provide a sense of warmth, openness, and security. I’m here to listen and work alongside you with empathy and congruence. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by life or just need a place to be yourself, we will move at your speed. I work strictly under the BACP ethical framework and clinical supervision, ensuring that our sessions are safe, professional, and focused entirely on what you need.

My Approach

My approach is integrative, which just means I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. I focus on you as an individual and respect that you know your own life best. While we focus on how things are for you right now (the person-centred side), we can also look together at any old patterns or past experiences that might be shaping how you feel today (psychodynamic). The most important thing to me is that you feel comfortable and that I am being real and honest with you. I believe therapy works best when there is a sense of congruence—meaning I show up as a real person, not a distant expert. I want to create a down-to-earth space where you can truly be yourself, knowing that we will always move at a speed that suits you.

Holistic & Mind–Body Perspective

I definitely believe the mind and body are linked. Often, when we’re going through a tough time mentally, it shows up in our bodies—like that heavy feeling in your chest or just feeling constantly drained. Our bodies have a way of holding onto what we're feeling emotionally. Because of this, I see physical activity and exercise as a massive part of staying well. It isn't just about fitness; it’s about clearing your head and letting off steam. In my work, I take a holistic view, meaning I care about your whole well-being.

What a session with me is like

Sessions are collaborative, safe, and paced to your needs. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or to talk before you’re ready. My goal is to offer a space where you feel heard, supported, and accepted, and where we can explore what matters most to you.

"It is completely normal to feel a bit nervous about starting therapy, but please know that there is no 'right' way to show up or a specific way you need to be. My goal is to provide a space where you can simply be yourself, without the pressure of having all the answers. Whatever you are carrying, we will take it one step at a time, at a pace that feels right for you."
