Our Story

Like many of the best of ideas Holistically Human⢠came about as a concept in a very organic way.
The brain-child of founder, Catherine Wignall, Holistically Human⢠was conceived after her long and painful journey to have a child and the sad conclusion that becoming a parent was not a possibility for her.
After seeking therapy to cope with the trauma sheâd experienced, her counsellor suggested that nurturing humans didnât have to mean motherhood: there are other ways of making a difference to peopleâs lives.
The seed was sown for a new purpose. Catherine trained to be a counsellor herself and also discovered the power of exercise and movement. âI decided to use my negative experience to help others by bringing together mental wellbeing and physical health in a holistic way â because Iâd experienced what happens when you donât see the connection. The two things are not separate things, at all,â Catherine says.
Her depth of learning increased when she utilised breathwork working at a charity helping trauma survivors. âI witnessed first-hand how it unlocked something for clients and enabled healing. Eventually, I realised the power of physicality and movement and made the link that I wanted to bring this to a wider audience, because Iâd also seen massive results myself,â she says.
Catherine set about marrying her previous skills used in business transformation with tools used in the therapy space to help change lives. She has created a new way of delivering therapy and education and found a team of like-minded therapists, assessors and supervisors to help her.
The aim is to train other therapists so that her vision of whole-person, holistic therapy thatâs accessible and affordable to all becomes a mainstream reality.

Why working holistically matters
Thereâs a wealth of scientific, peer-reviewed research that demonstrates a very clear link between brain and body. However, this isnât always acknowledged in the therapy space.
In fact, current counselling services and core training rarely cover Polyvagal Theory (PVT), body regulation and therapeutic practices that treat the whole human.
As a result, clients and practitioners can become very fixated on symptoms of poor mental health such as panic attacks, anxiety and depression and quick fixes such as medication to alleviate them.
A new wave of understanding is rising as our understanding of the brain and neuroscience builds and research is becoming more widely available via new media channels. People are catching on and seeking their own solutions to make use of the knowledge they are gaining.
It is no longer shaming to have counselling, moving to an accepted part of self-development, with many young adults using it as a source of growth and self-knowledge so they can live their lives fully.
However, without clear guidance the sheer volume of information available can be over-whelming, some sources are spurious, many misinterpret the information being made available without access to an expert or spend huge amounts of money in a quest of trial and error.
Embracing the science
Together as a network of Holistic Humans⢠we provide a service to our clients that is unique to their needs as a whole-human. We come together as a network of mind-body specialists to support you in navigating what is right for you.
Our practitioners and educators call upon skills rooted in their core training in modalities including (but not limited to) person-centred, psychodynamic, and somatic forms of counselling. But underpinning our practice is an understanding of neurophysiology and the mind and body connection.
Our partners in body and movement work with us by combining their core skills in physical therapy with our bespoke training in whole-human therapy to become accredited Holistic Humans.
We combine counselling with this wider therapeutic practice to provide our clients with the skills and tools to enhance their growth as an individual.
By reconnecting mind and body, embracing core human needs and joining the dots with psycho-education, we give clients the tools they need to ensure that the change they seek is long lasting and carries them throughout their lives.
In this way Holistically Human⢠offers counselling that supports the whole selfâmind and bodyâso clients can feel supported, heal deeply, and make lasting positive change.
